How to seduce your partner- be a Gastrosexual!

What is a Gastrosexual? Is it somebody who feels sexually attracted to someone else's tummy? Or is it someone who is sexually attractive to the stomach? Take it easy, it isn’t either of them!

I came across gastrosexual from a TV-show where a woman described her husband as a gastrosexual. The man in question was an Italian so at first I thought that it was an word used in Italy, but when she described him more clearly I understood how and what he was! He was good at cooking and he cooked in a passionate, sexual way!

There is certainly nothing wrong with the "shrimp and wine", but there are many other dishes that are sensual. And some of them are sensual when prepared as well as when you eat the food!

The proper definition from dictionary is “men who use their culinary skills to impress their friends and potential love interest”.

The word has emerged from the new generation of men who cook on television. Every TV-channel in Europe has weekly programs with their own chef who cooks in his special way. Some of the chef’s that were mentioned for having increased the macho-appeal of culinary arts was Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay.

It seems that women find gastrosexual men more attractive than other men! Or at least women find men’s ability to cook as important as their appearance, or as their manners and how a man express himself. A gastrosexual man is a man that isn’t afraid to show his feminine and artistic sides through cooking. But what they all have in common is their great love for raw materials and a big passion for cooking.

When I search the Internet for the world I learned that The Splendid Table, NPR´s signature cooking show, launched a "Gastrosexual of the Month Contest" last year. It seems that the word emerged as a marketing tool at first, and then it was more or less forgotten, until it now looks to have been a word that is used more frequently.

So, how is this new man? Has he taken over the historically female household chore and make meals during the day of the week? Now, I don’t think so! Women are still in the majority when it comes to cooking. But men are on the rise when it comes to cook fancy meals on the weekend! The gastrosexual man wasn’t at first pictured as a married man who cooked. The expression meant a single man between 20-45 years old. These men was considering cooking to be more of a hobby than a houshold chore. The description is just so you get the original meaning of the word!

Personally I think the word has emerged from the way that these men are cooking; they describe the appearance of the raw materials with great passion, and when they cook, they use their whole body. They use their hands lovingly, and above all, with power! They show their father’s role by cooking for their family and to be a gentle father, and still do it in a harsh manner is sexy.

But without saying anything about the famous chef’s mentioned above, I would instead like to mention men in general. To be honest, is there a woman who does not have had completely different images in her head when she sees a man specifically working with firm dough? Or when he carefully brushes the round buns with beaten egg just before baking? How much more sensuality can one need! Or isn’t food and cooking sexual in general? Food is a basic need, like kisses and hugs! And cooking food for the family is a very loving action. Is there anything that can be more appreciated than to be able to sit down at a table set with candles after a hard day and eat the food that your loved one has been prepared with care? Of course, I can think of other scenes that are more sensual and loving, but this hub is about gastrosex so we’ll stick to it before it gets worse!

I knew right away what the word meant, when I read about it; because I’m married to a chef! And he is indeed passionate about cooking!

It isn’t just men who can cook with passion. When there are so many women who are good at cooking delicious food, there are clearly many more gastrosexual women than men. For example; everyone can see how passionate Nigella Lawson is when she cooks, how she taste the food and enjoy the taste…that’s sensual! Her cooking is more about feelings than about useful and healthy food. She add cream in almost everything, and it´s gets so soft and lovely. It had not been as sensual if she had whisked in wheat bran or other fiber-rich food!

So, now! Men and women, grab an apron, and create a dinner with passion!
